En La Vega

I just spent the weekend in Las Vegas and had a great time. Pictures may or may not come at a later date. I will be spending the next couple of days climbing around here and then head east a bit for another southeastern swing. All of those in Blacksburg get ready no more of this non climbing shit that has been happening. It is unacceptable and will soon not be tolerated.

Until then get fit for some extreme rock boulder climbing and festivities.

Guiding and January

I've been out guiding a couple of times a week since I got back from Christmas break. Trying to climb as much as I can without getting too wrecked, but I've been finding more projects than I'm finishing and with only a month and a half left it will be difficult to finish them all. I also have not been taking many pictures, but here are a few.

Just got back to Texas a couple of days ago after a trip home for christmas. Snowing again today and it looks like it will be another couple days to clear up, but the climbing should be good for when it does clear.

Dayton Pocket / Stone Fort

Last week I stopped by at some bouldering areas in Tennessee on my way to Texas. Dayton was a bit of an epic. I went with my friend Brian and neither of us had ever been there. We found the parking area pretty easily, but the directions to the boulders that we got online were pretty shitty. We walked for almost 3 hours before we put the pads down to even start climbing. I got on a problem called river dance.

Next we walked up and tried a few roof problems before heading out for the day.

The two days we went to Stone Fort and Ali met up with us. I did a couple classic V7’s there, Instinct and The Pinch. Here are a couple pictures of The Pinch.

Moore's Wall

Last thursday I went to moore's wall with the goal of the vandal sit. it took a while and a few falls off at the last moves from the pump, but i got it.

Little Rock City

I showed up at little rock city around 10 in the morning and I was the only one there. I found a place to warm up then went straight to castaway, a dyno that i missed at the comp last year. It only took a couple of tries to do.

Then I found this climb called Red House and onsighted it. There were some other things I was trying to find, but the guide from the comp is pretty bad to use when its not the comp. The descriptions include follow the tape on quite a few problems.
Then I moved on to this climb called spank the baby and did it pretty quickly.
I walked around a bit looking for some stuff to do, but didn't find much. So I went back to an area I had climbed at the comp. I got on robbing the tooth fairy, which is my first v9. Then I started climbing with this guy from chatanooga and got a couple more 7's and did a few fun moderates.

Lilly

After rocktowns huge failure I went to Lilly to try and finish up Jack Slap Sit. I headed up there and this is a picture looking out from my house.
On Sunday I tried to go down to the boulders, but they were still to wet to climb anything hard. So I waited around until Monday to get down there. On Monday I waited until around 10 to head to the boulders, it was a little overcast so I didn't know if they would be dry. They were dry so I warmed up and got on Flexorcise and got it second try.
Then i went over to Jack Slap. This didn't go as fast, but I got and was done with these by noon.

I went back up to the parking lot and a few people showed up so I went back down to the boulders and climbed a few more things that i didn't know about.

Rocktown

I left Blacksburg after the third quarter of our trampling of Miami to drive down to rocktown. It is pouring outside and i figured that that would dry out first the next day so I wanted to go there. I get to the main way up and the road is blocked by barricades and caution tape. At this point it is only about midnight so I figured I would try to find another way to get to the top. There is another road that goes up the other side, so I drove all the way around the mountain, which took about 45 min to an hour. I then proceed to drive up the road and pass a small sign that is not blocking the road that says road closed ahead. I figured that it might just mean on the other side of the mountain where I had just been. I continue up this road. I get to this one section that starts to have lots of rock and dirt washed over the road, but my car goes over it just fine. Then i get to a section where it looks like about 20 feet of pavement was washed out. I drove over it and it barely scraped the bottom of my car. I kept going and the road started to have split offs. I tried to go up one of these that looked bigger and it was gated off and said it was private property. I had a little trouble turning around, but was able to without falling off the road. I turned to continue on the main road and in the pouring rain there were 3 deer standing in the middle of the road and i had to wait a minute for them to run off. Then a little farther up the road I came to a road closed sign and caution tape strung between the trees. It was here that I gave up and tried to figure out where to go. I decided to start driving up towards the Lilly boulders. I finally pulled into a walmart to go to sleep around 4am. Wasted drive time about 10 hours.

Bozoo

Got out for quick day trip to Bozoo today. We got lucky and the rain forecast was incorrect. Tried the project a few times, sent an unknown 7 and got some beta for a future trip out there. Weekend is looking like maybe one day to get out.

McAfee's Again

Spent another couple days up at McAfee's working on the project. Below are some pictures of it.

Think I'm gonna go back tomorrow to try again, but the weather for the rest of the week doesn't look too good so we'll see what happens.

Mcafee's Knob

The last 2 days i headed up to Mcafee's Knob. Had a crew both days, climbed a lot of the stuff in 2.0 and on scotts boulder. I am close on the project, i think it will go with one more day on it. Also sent a long time project Brooklyn Bridge at the roadside boulder.

The New

It was a rough couple of days getting back on real rock for the first time in 3-4 months. I was limited to gym climbing for the summer. I got on a few previous problems I had tried, but didn't get anywhere. I went to a couple of new areas i hadn't been to, to see if they had anything good. The end goal was Fayette station, but there were no warm-ups there so I stopped by the bridge bouldering area on the way. There was some nice stuff at both of these areas, but they are quite small. Also i would like to thank my parents for helping me to get my car ready to leave with the necessary modifications.

Packing

Today I finished packing up the car to get ready to leave. I am heading out tomorrow afternoon to go to the new for a few days. The weather looks unseasonably nice, which should lead to some nice climbing.
